I like this post. Work in general seems to be focused on meeting someone else’s goals especially if you’re employed. No freedom to do what you love. The question I ask myself to define my level of freedom in any job is this: If I have a personal emergency that I need time off work to handle and I feel scared to ask for this time-off, then I know there’s a problem. Eventually, something has got to give.
Priorities are important but, for most men, that wired need to provide that makes it easy to justify picking work over family is hard to disconnect. This is even worse when you work a job that pays per hour. The rate is fixed so its now a matter of who deserves your time more. To provide more, you have to be away more. To be with them more, means less money to provide. Such a life.
